I used to like Sheryl Crow alright. She had more guts than the average female singer-songwriter of that late 90’s rush, had some legit great songs with “Strong Enough”, “My Favorite Mistake”, and “If It Makes You Happy”. But “Soak Up the Sun”? “Steve McQueen”? Why is she still famous? And, it appears that somehow her fame is only growing. I see her everywhere. Any theories?
I have been wearing this record out as of late. Jason Isbell recently left the Drive By Truckers, and the results are fantastic. Personal favorites include “Dress Blues”, “Try”, and “Chicago Promenade”. Sort of Alabama soul meets roots country. Holla.
It is not news to me that Crowded House has reformed for a tour. I love Crowded House. It IS news to me that they have enlisted Beck’s drummer, Matt Sherod, to play the skins for them. “Don’t Dream It’s Over” is for sure a top 25 song for me, and to have that level of groove behind it is quite enticing. Speaking of Beck, how has his latest record The Information not generally recognized for its...
I have been tearing PaperbackSwap up as of late. When you first sign up, you list 9 books and get 3 credits just for listing. I have received over 15 books successfully and it is pretty foolproof. Check it.
Last month I was sure I had gone over my limit of 1000 text messages. As ridiculous as that seems, when I added them up in my head, I was sure there were days when I had sent or received at least 50. I checked, and I sent 415. I cannot imagine the strength, endurance, and mental focus of this guy.
Today I was driving to the gas station and heard Tim McGraw and Faith Hill’s new duet “I Need You”. I was a bit puzzled by the lyrics because it seemed like Tim wanted me to believe that he has experience with a “needle and a vein”. I just finished reading Steve Earle’s biography Hardcore Troubadour, and in light of that, it seems like if Tim McGraw has...
If you know me, it is entirely typical that my first post would be about Ryan Adams. But seriously, the guy is killing it as of late. Completely sober, Adams broke his hand skateboarding and was forced to put his guitar down for the first half of his current tour with the Cardinals. Frankly, he has never sounded better. Check this show out and revel in the glory.
