skinnycorp, the founders of threadless, extra tasty, and other fine community based sites, gave a keynote that i watched last night. it is worth all 45 minutes of it.
I recently bought Lyle Lovett’s new album It’s Not Big, It’s Large for my dad for his birthday. I also ordered a copy for myself, though regrettably not the deluxe version with the behind the scenes DVD. I have long been a fan of Mr. Lovett’s wit, economy in songwriting, and choice of wife, however, with my first listen, I was not so sure. Looking at the CD, it seems to be somewhat filler: an...

love this stuff.

Best news I’ve heard all day
I am in Los Angeles International Airport right now and havent slept in 28 hours. Despite how surreal everything seems, I still have something to rave about. When I saw the Bourne Ultimatum, there were several good trailers that caught my attention, including this, this and this. However, last night, in a dirty motel room in El Campo, Texas, the glory that is Walk Hard was revealed to me. I will...
As I sit here in Texadelphia on the drag in Austin, working on a Saturday, the thought of productivity crosses my mind. I have a severely short attention span, one that keeps me from enjoying complete rounds of golf with my dad, and until the past few years, movies. Now that I work for myself, I have struggled to find the best way to work and churn out results without getting distracted or slowing...
Mr. Eades was gracious enough to add me to his summer mix series. My mix seems to be a little more mainstream than the other ones offered, though I have been enjoying this one and this one. yewknee is definitely worth its daily visit, and being included gives a little more validity to this fledgling thing.
This weekend I will be playing in Houston and El Campo, TX with my buddy Owen Temple, then hitting the road early Sunday morning to get back to Dallas to catch a flight to California to play with my friend Brandon Heath. Anyone in surrounding areas should contact me to get details and come out and say hello.
The Upside: This weekend on a trip home to nashville, I had the chance to watch the Dixie Chicks documentary Shut Up and Sing. It was a very interesting take on their controversial statements about George Bush and the fallout that occurred from that event. Nice to see the inside take on the making of their record Taking the Long Way, which I have long loved and recommended. The movie was very well...
Here it is…my mix for August 2007. Download and enjoy, artwork by J. Pocta . This will be the first of many, just like me, a little bit country and a little bit rock and roll.
when it comes to politics, i am a little conservative, a little liberal, and mostly uninformed. This helps.
I was fortunate to see The Bourne Ultimatum this weekend, which was a fantastic action movie. I noticed how much of this movie was literal chaos, from the outstanding fight scene between Bourne and Desh to the car chase scene. Unless you watched it slowed down, there was no real way to know what was going on, but my brain sort of filled in the blanks. Anyone else have a similar experience? In case...
We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.

Amie Street recently got some cash from Amazon.com. Money from Jeff Bezos usually means big things are on the horizon, and this music retailer has an interesting way of ranking artists by recommendations and pricing songs by popularity. If the community approves, the artist gets promoted and makes more money. Slightly more direct than iTunes, I am just happy to see the Weepies getting some love.
when you didnt think it could get any more useful, Google Maps has added a feature that calculates real-time drive time, taking current traffic into account. Pretty unbelievable. Unfortunately, no matter how fast I can get there, my local Chick-Fil-A still will be closed on Sundays, which is the day I want it most.
My friend Matt Lehman does amazing things over at Invisible Associates. Some of my favorite pieces are this, this, and this, which I hawked on tour in summer 2006.
inspiring story of two folks, who, dissatisfied with current loft options, took it into their own hands to create the ideal living space.
I did not know that Amazon had artist recommendations. Maybe this has been around for a while, but many artists I enjoy and respect have offered their two cents.
Jim and Tom opened the show with “Kill” Full band came on for “Your House” The stage design was excellent, with a variety of white circles which had a myriad of colors projected onto them from various angles. Quite low-tech and versatile. I was excited about the show. Linde was too.
I am about to place my 1975 Guild D-25 guitar on eBay. I was thinking about the psychology behind eBay, and how that affects my pseronal rules for selling. 1. Start all auctions at $1. I have never had an item not sell for what I originally intended to get for it. Rather than using a hidden reserve price or a Buy It Now, I have realized that it is better to let your bidders decide the market value...
I saw Jimmy Eat World at the Granada Theater last night. Interesting band, in how well they have aged and how their music still stands the test of time. While watching Jim Adkins, I started thinking about the whole “emo” thing they used to have to shake, and realized that most of that title came from the fact that he really means what he sings. They played a great mix of old and new, with a few...
