This has got me thinking - I wonder how much of piracy is a result of the shortcomings of radio? If people heard what they wanted to, instead of Clear Channel’s mass-marketed-one-playlist-for-all garbage, would they steal as much music?
If anything, radio seems to have avoided the niches that people now seek through Pandora and Last.fm.

Recommending music into the long tail
I have been thinking about music recommendation a lot lately, and especially how to get people into music that they most likely haven’t heard yet. I had a sarcastic post earlier about Last.fm recommending me Neil Young & Crazy Horse since my most listened artist is Neil Young, and that just exemplifies the need for recommendation to go deeper.
